they gave him agun calling him free
they made a hero of the last honest cowboy
for all the world to see
They gave him wheels - the last honest cowboy
roads to travel and the gas for free
this country was heaven for the last honest cowboy
And he would work so hard
heŽd make money if he was smart
last dollar burning in his hand
would pay for whiskey for the band
just to repent his empty pockets in church
and Monday start again
promising that this time heŽd win
Ah - but his loosing streak
at the end of the week
was guaranteed like Sundays in church
They gave him a flag - the last honest coyboy
they gave him pride and some values in life
He got a family the last honest cowboy
three kids - a dog - and a wife
they gave him freedom - the last honest cowboy
freedom to kill if needed be
to believe what he wanted and to say what he meant
And he would work so hard
heŽd make money if he was smart
with what he had to pay
twelve hours a day
never seem to quite meet the demands
to Monday start again
his expenses never came to an end
he had two weekly shrinks
who told him powerty stinks
rippimg him off while shaling his hand
